On the 18th of May, our group, alongside Draaistroomdispuut Waldur, had the wonderful opportunity to visit KEMA Labs and DNV.
We kicked off the experience at KEMA Labs, where we toured the high-power laboratory and gained a firsthand look at how short-circuit currents and Transient Recovery Voltages are generated to test circuit breakers. The tour continued through the high-voltage lab, showcasing how essential high voltage assets are evaluated under extreme conditions.
Transitioning from asset testing to system-level solutions, DNV amazed us with the cutting-edge work being done within their Energy Systems department. We engaged in a series of enriching presentations detailing how their teams collaborated with the DSO on grid congestion management, utilize artificial intelligence to accurately assess the health index of operating assets, and thoroughly investigate major blackouts to deliver resilient, long-term solutions. This was perfectly complemented by a visit to DNV’s power failure investigation lab, where we saw forensic engineering in action to uncover the exact root causes behind certain cable failures. To cap off the day, we had the fantastic opportunity to wind down and chat with the team leads over drinks, sharing valuable conversations about their professional experiences, career journeys, and the exciting future opportunities within the company.
